Eurovision - Welcome To Eurotopia

Welcome To Eurotopia emerged as a cultural initiative that spearheaded Liverpool’s 2023 Eurovision Festival: a vibrant two-week celebration led by Natalie McCool and Stealing Sheep.

Jennifer John produced an expansive vocal arrangement of original music composed by Natalie McCool that complemented the avant-garde production, which included a string orchestra and marching brass band. Follow her process through initial read-throughs with the choir, to production rehearsals and the final show, which drew crowds of over 30,000.

“Jennifer’s work on the Welcome to Eurotopia was outstanding and safe to say she was my first choice for this complex role. She has such a great approach with people, she is highly efficient, show initiative, and approaches projects with a great balance of optimism and pragmatism. Jennifer has such enthusiasm for singing and vocal arrangement, that it’s impossible not to match that energy when you are working with her. The show was a huge success and i look forward to the next project we work on!”

- Producer, Welcome to Eurotopia

North Star - Kwame Daniels

North Star is a live music and spoken word performance inspired by the speeches of abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Conceived and developed by Kwame Daniels, the piece blended music, poetry, and visuals and saw an incredible array of artists all share one stage, including Grammy winning multi-instrumentalist and DJ Kaidi Tatham, and winning composer Ivor Novello.

For this project, Jennifer John created original vocal arrangements based on Kwame’s compositions, and directed the choir through rehearsals. The show, premiring in Ireland, was then picked up and run as a 3 week show in collaboration with the Irish Arts Centre in New York.

“Jennifer’s process is as innovative as her output. She arrived with a well-researched palette of vocal colours, but left space for discovery in the studio. Her ability to decode a director’s vision, translate it into musical architecture, and iterate swiftly under production pressures was invaluable”

- Kwame Daniels, Creative Director of North Star

BAFTA-winning screenwriter, Jimmy McGovern, engages with topics of race, longing, and loss.
