Jennifer John

Jennifer John is an award-winning artist, composer, vocal arranger and vocal architect whose work sits at the intersection of contemporary music, vocal arrangement and large-scale collective singing.

Originally from the East End of London, Jennifer’s career began at Newham Academy of Music studying violin and piano, where she had her first foray into the world of choirs. Now based in Liverpool, she is co-creator and Creative Director of Sense of Sound, a contemporary vocal ensemble she has led into collaborations with artists including Nile Rodgers and Chic, Damon Albarn, Seal, Paloma Faith, Boy George, Jon Bon Jovi, Roger Waters and Paco Peña, alongside performances for major broadcasts and events including the Royal Variety Show. Her expansive career championing collaborative singing culminated in 2003 with her being awarded the prestigious Pioneer for the Nation Award by HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

As a performer, Jennifer has appeared on stages including the the 7th Stonewall Equality Show at the Royal Albert Hall, performing alongside artists such as George Michael and Elton John. Her career also extends to recording, with highlights including her global no.1 dance hit Just Can’t Wait (Saturday).

Alongside her artistic work, she is a highly regarded vocal and artistic consultant, known for her distinctive approach to developing vocal confidence, stage presence and artistic identity. Her work is trusted by artists, management teams and record labels seeking a deeper, more holistic approach to voice and performance.

Her wider practice spans television, industry and education, including work on The Voice (ITV), and collaborations with leading institutions including the Royal Academy of Music, Royal Northern College of Music, the Institute for Contemporary Music Performance and the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.

Jennifer has led vocal ensembles of up to 3,000 singers, bringing clarity, cohesion and musical authority to large-scale participatory performance.
